Hades, receiver of the dead, god of the underworld and of wealth, is also the host of many. Known to the Hellenes as Plouton, the unseen one, and as Dis Pater among the Romans, Hades rules the silent and dark places beyond the veil of death. Quiet it may be there, but empty it is not: uncounted generations of ancestors dwell beyond the shores of Styx, as do a wide variety of gods and spirits.
This is an anthology in honor of the underworld’s king, and of the many other deities and daimons connected with that place; for example, Erebus, the Erinyes, Hypnos, Kerberus, Lethe, Macaria, Melinoe, Minthe, Nyx, the Oneiroi, Styx, Thanatos, and others. Rituals to honor chthonic deities, funerary observances, and hymns and poems written to evoke the ancient styles are welcome, as are more academic pieces and short fiction to re-imagine or expand upon what myths survive.
